Our family holiday was the same old, a retreat to Currarong with our family friends. Currarong is a fantastic place. At least a 20 minute drive from any other human settlement (from the direction of Nowra, the closest settlement is a stall in the middle of nowhere for selling peaches). There are five shops – a general store, a post office, a bottle shop, a petrol station and a fish and chips shop. A couple of years ago, the bowling club became a bit more cosmopolitan by employing a chef who could cook Chinese food. For fruit and vegies, there is a garden near the shops which is open for trade once or twice a week.
It feels like it is a small town when we go, but really that is the town at its biggest. Every summer about 1000 people descend upon Currarong for their summer holidays, including many wild children who terrorize the bingo hall and are careless with their bikes. There isn’t much else to do apart from going to the beach all day everyday. Our holiday was swimming and beach cricket and many hours of cards and board games. Fun fun fun in the sun.
On a completely different note, Alix has moved temporarily to Canada, where she is on exchange in Vancouver. Check out her blog at http://winningcanada.blogspot.com/
