Books and music: 2011

I am whittling away at my list of votes for the Triple J Hottest 100. I’m not there yet but hopefully I will have a list I am happy with soon!

Like possibly everyone else around the country one (or two or even three) of my votes will definitely be going to Gotye. Not only was his album my favourite musical thing that happened in 2011, he also released the album’s biggest hit, “Somebody That I Used To Know”, about a week after I finished reading High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. It was amazing – that song is practically the entire novel retold in a few gloriously composed minutes. That July and August was pretty glorious, hearing the song requested over and over again on the radio and being able to debrief and analyse my reactions to the story as I listened to such fitting music.

Thanks Gotye. And Kimbra.
