*Applause!*

The census database has been live for a few hours. The good news is that nothing has crashed (yet!) and I am up to my elbows in wonderful numbers! I keep breaking out into uncontrollable celebratory applause!

The census is wonderful.

Spending time with Heavenly Dad

This morning’s bible reading included 1 Chronicles 21, where David tests God’s patience by ordering a census of all the soldier-aged men in the land. I found this a little bit disconcerting, seeing as tomorrow is the day that the 2011 census database goes live – I’ve been looking forward to tomorrow for a very long time. I’m convinced that the 2011 census is not a weapon of Satan (if you are actually in disagreement on this issue and would like to talk about it, send me an email or something). Instead I’m inclined to think that God has a sense of humour. These biblical census reflections have been a helpful reminder to keep even this long awaited census release date in perspective of greater things.

My bible reading this morning was not limited to census in-jokes with God, I also read a Psalm. It wasn’t a Psalm I picked myself; like 1 Chronicles 21 this Pslam was scheduled a long time beforehand in my reading calender. Also, like 1 Chronicles 21, it was perfectly timed. It spoke volumes to my spirit, which is currently feeling a little bit wrought and tumultous.

Gladden the soul of your servant,
for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,
abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
listen to my plea for grace.
In the day of my trouble I call upon you,
for you answer me.

There is none like you among the gods, O Lord,
nor are there any works like yours.
All the nations you have made shall come
and worship before you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name.
For you are great and do wondrous things;
you alone are God.

Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
unite my heart to fear your name.
I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name for ever.
For great is your steadfast love towards me;
you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

Pslam 86:4-13

Praise the Lord who “gladdens our souls”!
